Traditional Multiple-Choice

The Problem:
Educators frequently ignore a critical aspect of the learning process - the role of feedback and its timing. Typical multiple-choice testing, which broadly assesses students’ level of understanding, does NOT permit students to know if their answers are correct - not at the time of testing and often not at all.

Students may receive feedback days later, but often the answers are returned without the questions. Without corrective feedback they retain incorrect information and tend to repeat their mistakes on subsequent tests of similar material.

The Solution:
Dr. Michael Epstein, a leading authority on learning and memory and longstanding Professor of Psychology at Rider University has developed an innovative solution to the aforementioned shortfalls. His company, Epstein Educational Enterprises, was incorporated in 2000 to commercialize his patented new learning and assessment system called the Immediate Feedback Assessment Technique (“IF-AT”).

The IF-AT provides immediate affirmation and/or corrective feedback, ensuring that a student’s last response is the correct one. This research-based system teaches while it assesses, facilitating learning and improving retention. As a result, it's key applications include both test taking and test preparation.
